Reflections from a Camp Monroe staff member
Being a counselor means being able to put my camper’s needs first. It is being able to talk and listen freely and openly.
It is taking the time to really understand what my camper is feeling and saying.
At times being firm but never scolding too hastily... everyone makes mistakes.
Trust the campers and they will trust your judgement.
Both the counselor and the camper benefit from a warm and loving relationship.
Watching them grow and learn helps us to learn also.
Knowing that you have affected them in a positive way is where you find your real reward... in your heart. I truly love being part of this experience.
