The Camp and The Child
Few parents realize it, but it is a fact that a child spends more time in camp during the summer than at school during the entire 9 months of the school year. Camp Monroe offers a most beautiful environment and the best possible influences.....and Camp Monroe maintains the highest standards for health, safety, supervision and Ethical Character Development (Midos). All of this helps to provide the most wonderful summer experience for the most priceless possession that parents have, their children.
Camp slogan sign Midos We have a special program at camp where we try to teach and instill good character traits (Midos). Each week we highlight two Midos of the week for the campers to work on. Every Friday campers receive our weekly Monroe Midos Message. At the end of the week we honor those campers who have been recognized by their counselors and group leaders as exemplifying our Midos of the week. We give these campers special recognition in front of the entire camp and present them with our coveted "Honorable Mentsch-en" award.

Food Services
Every effort is made at Camp Monroe to serve the highest quality, strictly kosher food in the most sanitary conditions.
We take pride in our menu planning, always attempting to serve wholesome, appetizing food. Our kitchen staff is headed by a professional chef with over thirty years experience. A resident mashgiach supervises the kitchen. Bruce Rothstein, our Food Service Director, takes personal responsibility in making certain that all of our campers and staff members are properly fed every day. We serve fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Homogenized, skim and chocolate milk are available at every dairy meal. Waiters and waitresses serve our meals family style and no one is restricted in the amount of food available to them. In addition to our regularly planned menu, there are also a number of substitutes offered for those with special dietary needs. To make sure that these special eaters are taken care of properly, Bruce, one of our owner’s, a dining room steward, and two camp mothers are present at meal times insuring that every camper and staff member has a complete and nutritious meal.

Health Services
The Health Center is a large, well-constructed building containing two examining rooms, a waiting room, eleven private and semiprivate patient rooms, and a dispensary carrying most commonly used medicines and first aid supplies. It is centrally located, apart from all other camp buildings and is under the 24 hour supervision of a Licensed Physician, and 3 Registered Nurses, all of whom live at camp full time. The health center is a bright, clean, comfortable place with bathrooms, showers, a kitchen, a game area, and a television/video for camper’s use. Each camper has a physical examination before camp and the camper’s health and medical history is kept on file. The camp Physician and Nurses make reports to our administration on a daily basis. The health of every camper is of primary importance to us and takes precedence over any other consideration.

Letters of Thanks from Last Season
Dear Stanley,
Words cannot tell you how much we appreciate what you have done for Randy. She is a different child after her very successful experience this summer. You have truly changed a child's life.
I can hardly believe it but I am now a senior in high school and working on my college applications. As I was completing my essay, which happens to be about my beloved Camp Monroe, it occurred to me that I ought to ask you for a recommendation….
I want to thank you again for your bigheartedness and making me feel a part of the camp family. I hope you and your family are able to touch thousands of other souls in the years to come and give them the same experience that I was so lucky to have.
Camp has been a constant in my life over the years. Through two moves, four knee surgeries, and the other normal growing pains one experiences, camp has always been there for me at the end of the day and has taught me a lot about life.
We would like to thank you for all that you and camp have done for us and Mandy. Camp gave her an environment where she could be herself and never did she feel there was a task she could not accomplish. She came home confident, settled and excited about herself. We are proud of everything Mandy did at camp. We talk about Midos almost daily. You should know she even talked about Midos in her first day of school essay.
Camp Monroe is a magical place and I hope to see you again next summer. It was very thoughtful of you to remember my request. We can't wait to see everyone on Visiting Day.
I want to tell you what a positive experience my son had in camp. He goes to Hebrew Day School and enjoyed Shabbos at camp far more than the academic setting at school. Thank you for raising his Jewish spirit.
I miss camp. Guess what! My brother decided to come to camp next summer when I told him I loved camp.
All the love, thanks and kindest regards we could possibly express. I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, but strength in my heart, knowing that the love and lessons we've taken from camp will be with us forever.
Thank you for the wonderful second month my children spent at Monroe. They had a fantastic time and came away with new friends, new experiences and more inner strength. And yes, they now speak English and can actually have a proper conversation with their grandmother in Australia!
The love, dedication and organization that you put into running the camp is exemplary… and it is evident in seeing the smiling faces and ruach of the kids and staff.
It is with affection and appreciation that we write this note of thanks. Daniel's "Camp Monroe" Bar Mitzvah was special, spiritual and the way it was meant to be! You spoke from the heart beautifully and your words showed how well you know Daniel and our family.
Thank you so much for helping my children to have a wonderful first experience at sleepaway camp. I guess it could have happened "Only at Camp Monroe". You're the best. Enjoy the quiet.
Being at Camp Monroe has provided me with some of the best experiences of my life. The relationships are unlike any other. The fraternity among bunkmates is something I never could have imagined. Camp provided me with an opportunity to showcase my talents, open up with and befriend new people, interact with knowledgeable adults, hone my people skills, and to experience Judaism from a different standpoint.
The summers go so quickly which makes us live the two months we have at camp to the fullest. I've met friends that I can now consider my family. You gave that to me and I can't thank you enough. Like never before in my life, I felt spiritually connected this summer. Every Friday evening, your light-hearted singing and enthusiastic storytelling opened me to an alternate side of life.
Receiving the forms for next year's enrollment completely made my day, probably even my week! Camp means so much to me and it has become part of my life. I can't even imagine what life would be like had Camp Monroe not existed and brought me and my closest friends together.
One of the things that made this the perfect summer was our counselor. He was the best counselor that we ever had. He made our summer better than any other counselor. We hope he can again be our counselor next summer.
After spending almost a decade of my life in Camp Monroe, I finally became a counselor. This summer was my turn to finally pass on to other campers what had been given to me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of this cycle.
